Sigma 70-200mm F2,8 lense
This excellent lense was loaned to me for the A1GP race recently held in Durban. I was short of a lense and this one was suggested. I felt it was not going to be the answer but now I will eat my words...
Being an F2,8 lense, it will inevitably be heavy ( or heavier than other lenses of this size) but that didn't seem to matter once I had it in my hands. The lense was well balanced and just seemed to be right on my Canon 30D. I'd done a test in my garden and most of the pics were soft so I wasn't expecting too much from the lense! Surprise!! It was almost perfect for this race, a street circuit with the cars whizzing past you within metres! Yes, it was a tad short on the long distance shots but that's not the lense's fault. When I got home and saw the pics, I was blown away by the clarity of my shots. This is a lense I can recommend. Priced at around R12,000 that is not too bad for this quality. I'd even go so far as to say that this lense is a pro lense. I know if I had one, I'd be happy to have it as it will not let me down. The ring focus worked well and being an HSM lense (Hypersonic motor), the focus was quick, clean and quiet! All in all, a pretty good lense.
